- “You do what?”
- “At night?”
- “By yourself?”
- “Aren’t you scared?”
- “In the heat/cold?”
- “Are you crazy/serious/kidding?”
- “All the way home?”
- “How far is that?”
- “It takes how long?”
- “Thirty-five minutes is a long time”
- “Do you have mace/pepper spray/a gun?”
- “Why?”
- “You live down here?”
Exactly! I’ve had (and continue to have) similar experiences. Who knew walking home, to work, or taking care of errands would be unorthodox?!
My favorite of the list is: #12 “WHY”. That one is typically followed by a look of disapproval, bewilderment or a combination of the two.
Amazing how auto-centric we are.
Or they like to offer you a ride. Gee, if I wanted a ride I would have driven!
I can’t believe I left out “Do you need a ride?”
Ha! That “do you need a ride” question is the reason that, when I take the bus home from my office, I duck out quietly and corner myself in the bus shelter. I don’t want to give a co-worker the chance to ask.
These kind of responses represent the attitude that makes me loathe Atlanta sometimes…
